Treehoppers features field recordings by Reginald (Rex) Cocroft made in Panama using specialized field recording equipment to pick up the surface-borne vibrations that treehoppers propagate through the vegetative surfaces they spend their time on. Treehoppers are inherently social creatures, using their shared homes as their carriers and amplifiers.

In this composition, I react *to* and mimic the treehopper soundings on percussion, as well as electronic processing of their signals.

Treehoppers are fascinating beings, both in appearance and behaviour, and often resemble thorns.

Taxonomically, they are related to leafhoppers and within the Family Membracidae. They were formerly considered part of the order Homoptera, but are now grouped with the Hemiptera.
